Where time stands still
Unfiltered
The wind whips the trees’ branches
And the horse stands still
So quiet, so present
What is he thinking
Of this girl in her car
I get out and take a deep breath
The grass smells freshly cut
Yellow sour sobs dot the hills
Such a nuisance at home
Yet here so pretty and free
The breeze ripples them
In the sun
He looks at me
And flicks his ears
My heart expands and brushes his
Softly
I lift my head and let peace wash over me
For a moment I am here
Like the horse
But the thoughts slide in and out
In and out
Running on a string with no end
Meandering around rocks in a stream
My husband on his computer
Engrossed in his work
I feel a little guilty taking time out
My mum, sitting at home
In her fresh grief
Having lost her partner of 28 years
My daughter
Finishing her placement
I wonder where she’ll go next
Finally home after all these years
Yet itching to go again
Take her degree to the outback
Where she can help people there
Always someone else
All those people with a passion to help
Make the world a better place
So heroic and yet
Their backyards flow over with weeds
The horse is watching
I see the universe in his eyes
Past, present, future all at once
I want to dive in
I want to jump on his back
Bury my face on his mane
Breathe his earthy fragrance
Feel his muscles flex under me
Stretching and galloping
For no other reason
Than to feel the ground under his feet
The wind in his hair
His tail flying behind
To unleash his energy
And take me with him
Together as one
To that place where everything moves
And yet time stands still.

well done
Whoa horsie, this was a thought patchwork well worked. Very much enjoyed. Hugs to your mom.
This was incredibly beautiful, reality and melancholy leaking in to mix with the wildness and innocence of nature. Just lovely :)
Well, that is lovely - love the last two lines "To that place where everything moves, And yet time stands still."
