Where Peace Cannot Follow
A Mystical Ghazal by Amin al-Din Balyani

Amin al-Din Balyani, a 13th-century Persian poet with a mystical voice, remains lesser-known but deeply expressive. His poetry bridges the emotional intensity of love with the subtle spirituality of Sufism. In this ghazal, he speaks of falling helplessly into the grip of love—a love that strips away sleep, calm, and reason. The beloved is everywhere and nowhere, hidden yet vividly present in the heart. The poem beautifully expresses the unrest of the seeker and the paradox of a love that burns quietly within.
🌿 Since falling into love’s snare, I’ve lost all peace,
My restless heart finds no path, no release.
💫 No sleep remains, nor sense within my soul,
In this storm of longing, I’ve lost all control.
✨ I search each path, hoping to find your sign,
But only sorrow rests in this chest of mine.
🌙 Where can you hide from me, my radiant flame?
You dwell within—I whisper your name.
