Don't Forget the Heart You Took
A Tender Ghazal by Saidi Tehrani

Saidi Tehrani, a refined 18th-century Persian poet from the literary revival period, was known for his heartfelt and melodious expressions of love, longing, and gentle complaint. His ghazals often reflect the quiet ache of separation and the tender hope for reunion. In this poem, the poet pleads with the beloved not to forget the heart they have taken. With imagery of sleepless nights, whispered prayers, and a single smile that could change the world, the poem beautifully captures the emotional delicacy of love left unanswered.
🌿 I live by your scent, O soul of my soul—don’t be unaware,
You stole my heart and vanished—be fair, be aware.
💫 Not once have I rested from your memory in sleep,
While you dream sweetly—my yearning runs deep.
✨ In every street and corner, I cry out your name,
O heartless beloved, can you not feel my flame?
🌙 If once more you'd smile upon my face,
The world would bloom with sudden grace.
