When You Make Impact..
In lives of people around you, self-respect soars

I am not living this life
to consume and have fun,
I am here to make an impact,
not in so-called big ways,
but in the ways, I can.
When I see problems,
in my neighborhood,
I offer my opinions.
The edible landscaping,
have tons of delicious fruits
people don’t know the value,
they fall and rot.
I teach, and encourage.
to take advantage
of the nutritious bounty,
nature freely offers.
Today, I saw a kid
jumping through a tangle,
of rockrose bushes
to grab a doggie bag,
from the nearby station,
I gently told him,
not to do it again,
those shrubs are home,
to ticks and rattle snakes,
follow the sidewalks,
I hope, he remembers.
I aked another school kid
if he knows the plant,
in his yard, and he didn't,
so I told,
and advised to learn,
or it will be bane,
to their generation.
I smell room fresheners,
wafting from houses.
I see little girls rubbing,
sunscreen on their limbs,
and I feel like saying,
“Please stop,
hormonal balance is at risk.”
But I fear, they’ll call me,
a spoilsport, Nosey Parker,
So instead, I write,
to raise awareness.
I urge you, my readers,
to recognize the issues
and try to weed them out,
in this temptation era,
often people are blindfolded,
they don’t see the perils,
and we need to warn.
When we walk this path,
of honesty and social welfare
we feel self-respect,
one of the best feelings.
