"When the Monsters Returned"

poetry

By IdoiaPublished about a year ago 1 min read

The monsters are back,

those I thought I had left behind.

They are slowly extinguishing me,

their voices echoing in my head.

They tell me to do it,

that no one will miss me.

I try to ignore them,

but they grow louder and louder.

I don’t know how much longer

I can hold on without breaking.

Everything is spinning around me,

I feel like I’m about to fall.

The light is fading away,

leaving darkness in its wake.

I want to close my eyes,

but someone tells me not to.

I hear sirens and screams around me,

I see lights coming toward me.

The voices around me begin to fade,

the lights start disappearing.

I did what they asked of me—

I ended my life.

And at last, the monsters are gone.
