When the Answer is No ...
What do we do when God says ‘no’?
When we cry out to God, pour out our hearts
Put our fates in the hands of the almighty
Asking those questions, asking for a path forward
How do we respond? What do we think?
What is the appropriate thought …
When the answer is no?
For our God is not a genie granting wishes
Placed here for our wishes and desires
Yet we call out, we pray for guidance, for help
We trust that God will do what is best and good
That is what we are told is it not?
God answers all prayers … just be patient
“Have faith …”
Ah, but the caveat! The extra point often not told
Left out by those content in life, who need no answers
Sometimes … sometimes a prayer to God is answered …
‘No’
Yes, God does answer all prayers, but ‘no’ is an answer!
In that, what shall we do? Give up and walk away?
Or trust God knows more than us, even what is good for us?
For our hearts
Hard as it may be at times …
To be told what our heart so desperately wants
Who … our heart wants …
When we ‘just know deep down’ this is God’s plan for us!
But it does not come to pass, the answer is no …
So we must trust and hold on to hope in the Lord
That this ‘no’ will lead to a far greater … ‘yes’
More wonderful than we could have imagined
The ‘yes’ God waited for us to be ready for
In God’s time and place …
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
Neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord” (Isaiah 55:8)
We will get that amazing and life-changing ‘yes’
One day … On God’s chosen day ...

Day 4 of Quitting
If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.
