Beyond the Love, We Once Knew

Don’t ask me for that same love again, my beloved.

I once thought that having you would bring endless light into my life.

That if I had your love, the world’s problems would not matter.

Your face made the world bloom with beauty.

What else was there to treasure but your eyes?

If you came to me, destiny would bow down to my wishes.

I didn’t expect things to be this way; I only wished for it.

But now, I’ve learned that there are many sorrows in life beyond love.

There are other comforts beyond the joy of being with you.

The dark, cruel spells of centuries…

Woven into silk and velvet and embroidered cloth…

Bodies are sold everywhere, in streets and markets…

Covered in dust, bathed in blood.

Bodies emerging from the ovens of disease,

Oozing with pus, riddled with painful sores.

My gaze now returns to these realities, what else can I do?

Yes, your beauty still captivates me, but what can I do?

For there are many more sorrows in this world than just love,

And there are many joys beyond the pleasure of union.

So, don’t ask me for that same love again, my beloved.
