When Love Evolves

Becoming Nothing Else

When love once was

but now it's not

Embers withdrawn

what's cold, once hot

*

The hurt dissolves

unties the knot

The hearts recalls

the head forgot

*

Mysteries unsolved

questions remain

remnants of love

whispers a name

*

No place to land

no place is safe

once hand in hand

close, face to face

*

Now enemies

no ill will, intent

Friendship, maybe

that ship was sent

*

Will love survive

the heart won't tell

Dead or alive

It's just as well

*

What's past is past

Should let it go

memories outlast

the will to grow

*

Moving on, the hardest part

mourning what's left behind

Unlucky he, who tames the heart

No telling what you might find

sad poetry

Wow. Every single stanza has such beauty, truth, and depth to it. Such a lovely flow...telling such a story. I'll never know how you create so many masterpieces one after the other like this, but you've done it again! 😍😍 You are so talented!

  • I'm not going to try to top Randy's comment. So I'll say "ditto" to his comment and add that I love the ebb and flow of experience and emotions. I hope this becomes a Top Story.

  • I'm guessing they're lucky at cards? Anneliese said it better than I ever could down below. The short, lilting cadence, lost in waves of sometimes conflicting thoughts & emotions, confusion, making the head spin in a sickly, sorrowful way. Not quite sure what comes next. "Unlucky he, who tames the heart No telling what you might find." You sweep us up & along, Kelli, into the world of a broken heart.

Beautifully written in this short-lined rhyming format, giving it a cadence that feels almost conversational, confessional. Really beautiful - Anneliese❤️
