When I Realized I Held My Value Hostage.
Left Behind
By Isis Lyons Published 3 months ago • 1 min read

For so long I believed I must always shine
I must always hold up the light to the people in the dark
I've burned myself, so others could have a shoulder in hell.
I've been the guardian no one noticed,
The protector no one protected.
I looked around and no one was satisfied.
I looked in the mirror and neither was I.
It wasn't until I let go of you.
When I realized I held my value hostage.
I trapped her in a cage to be forgotten.
She was a caterpillar screaming for her chance to fly.
If I stayed she'd die.
Leaving you left room for liberation.
It left room for hope.
