When I get to thinking...
Poem by Dominick Herrick
I think I’m ready to feel.
I think I’m ready to hold.
I’m ready for something real.
No more believing in fools gold.
I think I’m ready to fall.
I think I’m ready to commit.
It’s gonna be all my fault,
If everything burns to a crisp.
I think I’m ready for love.
I think I’m ready to understand.
I’m asking the man above
For a moment to hold your hand.
I think I’m ready for the truth.
I think I’m ready for this.
In that room, under that roof.
I’ve never felt a more powerful kiss.
I think there’s something wrong.
I’m going too far, too fast.
I only know come and gone.
But, for more than a minute for this to last.
I think I’m at fault.
I think it’s done before it’s begun.
Too fast, my feelings exalt.
I lose if nothing is done.
I think that it’s time.
I think you’re an ocean beach.
You could never be mine.
But I’d still want to kiss your cheek.
I think that you care.
I think my heart’s been sore.
Into the water we stare.
I’ve never felt this way before.
I think, for the first time, I don’t have to hold my heart together anymore.
