When Daydreams Sing

I’m half asleep

The music plays in the background

I want it to be the background score of my dreams

I spent my day lost in melancholy

Longing for better days

But now I’m soothed

I feel like I can finally breathe

I feel light

After carrying the weight of sadness all day

I’ve kept my sadness aside for now

Because I need this. I need warmth

This warmth, this music slowly seeps into my dreams

It tells me that everything will be alright

Things won’t always be the way they are

If I am kind to life, life will be kind to me

I wake up early, I make myself tea

I’m going to start my days right

Anyway, deep dive

Into my daydreams

Can I make them my reality?

Can life be as sweet?

Like red velvet cupcakes

Melting in my mouth

Like a choco chip milkshake

Like mango ice cream

In my daydreams

I’m not escaping

My smile isn’t fake

My laugh is genuine

My eyes don’t carry sadness

My voice doesn’t tremble

The music plays

I know what I wish to do

I want my reality and daydreams to merge

I wish to hold life gently

Find immense joy in the little things

The music plays

My daydreams try to step into my reality

They are afraid

They don’t know what they are doing

Reality is grim

He looks at them, unimpressed

But they smile, they make art

Sketches of reality

They try to make him smile

Reality isn’t artistic

He prefers logic and practicality

Daydreams have formed a band now

They are on stage, performing

Reality sits in the audience

Scrolls through his phone

Daydreams are having the time of their lives

Reality can judge them all he wants

They are happy

They know that someday

Reality will get on the stage and sing

They will be right there

With their guitars and drums

They will help reality
