A Ripple Is Enough

A poem

The joy of creating

Even when it’s imperfect

Even when it’s unfinished

Writing brings me peace

It tells that I have a voice

Regardless of whether it reaches people

Maybe it’s just a ripple

But it’s something

Better than nothing

Better than being a passive observer

In my very own life

I narrate my story

There are not many plot twists

There is not much to tell

But I’m trying

To create art out of the ordinary

To find magic in the mundane

A pop of colour in grey days

Then some more

Because staying still is not an option

Not anymore

I’m not sure whether I’m making the most of my days

But my little days

Are no longer the same

My nights aren’t full of ache

There is something beyond

The bridge of sadness

I have been stuck here for a long time

I look below, frozen and unsure

Water, depths, the unknown

What am I doing?

Who am I waiting for?

I’ve been trying

To make it to the other side

Maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be

Every day attempts to make it through

Small wins, some setbacks

Getting back up and starting again regardless

What lies on the other side?

What awaits my arrival?

Some days I walk

Some days I run

Sometimes I stand still and stare below

Today, my feet hurt

But I keep walking

Slowly, taking small steps

I don’t hate this bridge anymore

I don’t complain

A stray cat walks by my side

It’s orange and has a stripy tail

I let it sniff me, get familiar

And pick it up

We will make it to the other side.
