traced upon the brick road

each crack and imperfection from years of treading

what once was a bright red

has faded to a dusky rose

some more faded than others

plants growing in between the

broken parts of brick

while it crumbles beneath the feet

the wheelbarrow rolling along the road

carrying the replacement bricks

stacked neatly

all next to the chickens in their coop

they shivered

recovering from the rainstorm

that nearly flooded the town

the water droplets still linger on the roof

the wheelbarrow cleaned of all the mud

that was stuck on from the last job

it was depended on
