What you see

A poem about grief.

You can see me,

but I cannot see you

only the way the stars glisten

and the sun sets.

I can hear the trees whisper,

and the rain cry

but I cannot hear

the sound of your voice

nor your heart beating

In harmony

with your lungs.

Yet you can see me,

the way i grew

taller than the sunflowers

that lay in the fields.

The way my eyes changed colour,

in the light

Or my hair became blonder

in the sun.

You saw me,

watched me change

but i did not get to see

who you grew to be.

Instead i am left,

watching the stars

as they glisten

and shine a little brighter

each day

looking for you.
