What the Snood?
A Turkey's Tale
Teddy Turkey was feeling down.
He was the strangest bird in town.
His wattles were a bit too short.
His feathers were the scraggly sort.
But worst - the thing that made him hide:
His snood would hang on the wrong side.
*
The others pranced around with glee.
Their snoods, hung left for all to see,
But Teddy's hung upon his right.
It was the final, shameful blight.
The others disappeared, as "chosen."
Teddy stood back in the corner, frozen.
*
With everyone gone, he ruled the roost.
And then, the females were introduced.
They didn't care how hung his snood.
They wanted him to make a brood.
What fun he had with hens that spring -
Chasing tail and doing his thing.
His offspring - snoods on right - would prance,
And Teddy told his tale at every chance.
