A single flame can set the world afire
Racing red ramshackle sparks
Speeding over curves
Tracing the walls and eaves
Illuminating and eradicating shelter
Exposing the vulnerable innards of your private retreat
Catching wind to rise aloft and illuminate the night
Bright as day
Trees aglow from within
Toss and tumble and fall in a row like dominoes
The hush filled with crackles and pops and squeaks,
A destructive symphony
To accompany the acrid odor
Of memories turned to ash
This is why the lantern is important
The bastion between us and decimation
Metal and glass to focus revelation
Cage the flame to quell its wrath
A reluctant ally sharing its secrets
Without stealing ours

Love the juxtaposition, and you really distill it in this final lines, well done!
Such powerful imagery. I love how you captured both the beauty and danger of fire.
