What’s eating Lady Liberty?

The Call for Change

The following is an adaptation of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” transformed to fit the continuous cries for change inspired by the events of George Floyd, and the overall institutional treatment of minorities in American society.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lady Liberty her pains are real being the mother of this free world

She knows this is an inflection moment to obtained atonement

She's anxious, but the times are shifting and the winds are changing

She is ready to drop sweeping legislation

But she keeps on forgetting this is America and we are still not ready

What she wrote down won’t even matter because she is a minority

The crowd of hate can be so dreadfully loud

She stands to shout but no one is even listening anyhow

She's drowning now

The world is joking out loud

Time’s run out oh wow

Snapback to vanity,

Oh, this is insanity

What’s eating Lady Liberty

She is confused and choked

She's so mad

She won't have it she knows

Her whole back up against these ropes

Why does it all have to be dormant and broke

When she goes back to her island that's when it's back to the same old grain again, yo

This is America rhapsody let’s go capture this moment

And hope it doesn’t just pass us by

Let’s lose ourselves in the moment. We own it we will never let it go. This is our one shot let’s not miss our chance to blow off these societal woes. The opportunity comes once in a generation, yo. For the next generation here we go...

No more, we have changed what you call rage and turn it into brave

Let’s tear the roof off of this institutional oppression game we call societal hate

We were playing in the beginning, the mood all changed

Minorities have been chewed up and spit out and label as crazies and dazed

But we keep on rhyming and stepping, writing, plotting the next crusade

Best believe America is on the verge of paying up to this Lady Liberty piper

All the pain inside amplified by this cry for change

More than half of us are suppressed and oppressed

And we can't provide equal rights even for the most basic of human rights

Pinned against each other to feed a system that is not for us but the elite 1%

From yellow to red to brown to black even whites and all the colors in between aren't we all at the core by definition just called human beings

United we stand and together we dream to be no longer divided

Over those coveted spots of becoming the elite ones royal court joker

this is our America, our life our reality and not a fantasy

Trying to feed and water our seed, for evolution is the next generation

People screaming in the streets all they want is justice and peace

Ready or not revolution is here, time to speed up this snail train

We've got to formulate a plot or end up like the lot

Success is OUR only option, failure's not

America the beautiful and great, Lady Liberty and we the people love you but our current directions no longer serve us all in we the people

Let’s keep this momentum and stand united to shoot this shot to innovate all the way to the top

Here we go... One republic, one flag, one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for …

Let’s remember we are all the people for which this nation was founded upon America, change is here and now

Let’s lose ourselves in the moment. We own it we will never let it go. This is our one shot let’s not miss our chance to blow off these societal woes. The opportunity comes once in a generation, yo. For the next generation here we go...
