What's a Good Breakup?

A Breakup's Precious Lessons

A good breakup is just as precious as a good relationship. It's a truth I realized later, and honestly, I became a better person after mine. It wasn't a sudden epiphany, but rather a gradual awakening, bit by bit, as I emotionally polished myself and forged a more stable self. That past relationship opened my eyes and forced me to confront myself: Why was I so uneasy? Why did my partner's reaction matter so much to me? Why was I becoming less and less like myself in love?

True growth occurs when you learn to maintain your own identity while also nurturing a relationship. No more people-pleasing, no more blindly giving, no more treating love as a lifeline.

Looking back, that relationship also had its tender moments. We laughed until we cried over silly jokes and opened up to each other late at night. That unwavering trust made me think, "This is forever." But later, I discovered that the relationship also made me dependent, sensitive, vulnerable, and afraid of loss. I seemed to have forgotten how to live solely for myself.

The breakup was like a sudden storm, blowing away everything I had thought was solid. I once picked up the pieces of myself from the rubble, putting them back together piece by piece, trying to reclaim the unflappable, uninvolved, and non-clingy me. It wasn't a romantic process; it was a bit awkward, but I know it was the process of truly becoming an adult.

Looking back now, I say thank you to that relationship and thank myself for all the hard work. I no longer care whether he misses me or whether I did anything wrong, because I know that separation was the best outcome for us. Many relationships in life don't have to last forever to be considered worthwhile; as long as we have truly loved and learned, that's enough.

Meeting him was luck, and missing him was a sobering experience. From now on, my emotions will only be for those who are worthy, and my tenderness will only be visible to those who cherish me.
