What Record

What Record
Photo by Timo Strüker on Unsplash

i sat in front of my record box

thinking what i could play

just to rip at my wounded heart

that little bit more

what could i put on

that would shriek all knife like

straight between my ribs

what record can i choose to crush me

what record will see me break

what song could i choose

to maybe ease the ache

i was thinking Love In Vain

by The Ruts

a little to final and abrupt

Closer by Nine Inch Nails

ouch

i felt that touch

Barbed Wire Love

by Stiff Little Fingers

every scratch burns

and the hurt just lingers

Kylie Minogue

Can’t Get You Out Of My Head

now i can’t even can’t even

can’t even get out of bed

i’m searching for that one song

i’m looking high and feeling low

triggering myself left right

and fucking centre

trying to find that elusive tune

knowing i will find more hurt

and maybe a little peace

that one song that says everything

that says nothing

that one song

that will truly melt my heart

cause we all know

i’m gonna pick

Love Will Tear Us Apart

.

.

(sorry I didn't link the songs I couldn't!)

"what record can i choose to crush me what record will see me break what song could i choose to maybe ease the ache"- I tend to go for the really lowest of blows to get me through tough times, but the music always seems to help me.

Loved the flow smooth, thoughtful, and engaging from start to finish.

  • Funny thing though, these songs that annihilate us now, will one day be our weapons. My best advice is experience, collect them., memorize and take aim. Another smash poem, B

Music hath charm to soothe the savage beasts … Yet is festooned too with barbs to pierce the soul and rend the heart.
