What happened to that fluttery twinkle in a starry eye?

When did the eye’s fire die?

What happened to sincere faces or light toed graces?

Or imperfections gleaming like gold, glimmering in their places?

Perfect because they are not so,

Stop, said the mirror, look at the glow.

But where did the beauty go?

What happened to the light tongue winding,

spinning a tale, sealing the binding.

When was the mouth reduced to blood red lips,

Hurling hatred, sinking ships.

And the eyes alive, why do they now lie dead?

Covered in shadow, they hide in the head.

Why is beauty at rest in the bed?

And when did the many tones of the skin become so vile?

Why are they masked? Changed? Covered up for awhile.

Why does the body have to curve or flow?

Does no one care about the heart you show?

What happened to beautiful?

Where did she go?

Has she been slain by harsh terms?

Liars! Worms!

They destroy true beauty,

They destroy true love,

They destroy true peace,

They’ve killed the dove!

They destroy true grace,

They destroy true joy .

All in the name of a peer?

or to impress a mere boy?

What happened to beautiful?

Can she still be brought back?

Or is beauty even missing?

Is it just heart that we lack?
