i take my traumas

turn them into poetry

so others can heal

~~~
I often get asked what I write about, but I never really know how to answer.
I write about a lot of things. I write about travel, food, self-improvement, yoga and other stuff on other platforms. So I can just list them.
But when I get asked what my stories and poems are about? Crickets.
I don't know. Read one and tell me?
Whatever I write in my poems feels like it isn't written by me. It feels like it already exists in the ether and just flows through me. But they usually have some connection with me, and I believe that is why the poem chooses me. We connect through previous experiences. Writing them helps me to heal wounds, or digest emotions but I truly think their purpose to be born is to help others to do the same.
    Pain into poetry is usually the purest.
    Imola, this is absolutely beautiful, and made me a bit teary-eyed. I write to uplift humanity (personal tagline), and poetry is my genre of choice. I feel a kindred soul in you.
    I love this, Imola! And I can completely relate to the difficulty in articulating a response to that question! Stealing the "I don't know. Read one and tell me?" to try out next time I get asked!
    This is beautifully articulated!
    Firstly, beautiful haiku. 💛 Sharing the trauma is also a way to heal yourself as well as others. You may find people will relate, just like with this one, where we often pull words out of the ether to put on paper. But your writing has your own writer's voice behind it - it has the Imola touch and magic, and no one else can write what you do. 😁🤗
    I totally get what you mean; some things just seem to come out fully formed... It's more like unearthing something that was always there than crafting something new.
    What beautiful words! I share your sentiments, though. When people ask me what I write about, I tell them fiction/adventure stories (for books), but it really varies. And I also believe stories/poems are meant to touch everyone. Great job!
    Agreed. You can't force a poem. It has to materialize. Well done!
    The idea that we are vessels for creative ideas really resonates with me.
    Yes, I started writing about my experiences with my son in the hopes that some of the might help other parents.
  • Writing certainly is very therapeutic for me but I've never thought that it might help others as well. It's nice to know that. Loved your Haiku!
