What Could Have Been

Do you ever wonder what happened to us?

I do find that I am overcome with the memories.

Sometimes I even glaze over those moments of terror.

Terror of what you might do given the chance.

Regrets filled me over what you made me do, for years.

Acceptance has overcome all other thoughts of what we had.

Children could not have been raised in the world you created for us.

The lessons I learned will never be forgotten.

I understand my worth and I hope you will one day change.

Only then will you be able to give someone what they need.

Not allowing you to control my every move led to the best of my days.
