WELCOME JACK FROST

The evening was calm, the stars were bright

We welcomed the first snowy night

I grabbed my coat, gloves and hat

Stopped to put on my boots waiting on the door mat

The wind is talking, are you listening?

Under the moon light the snowflakes are glistening

The small crystals of frozen water drops crunch under my feet

Disturbing the soft white blanket of peace

The chilly air tingles at my cheeks and nose

The cold powder wetting the tips of my toes

I pull my hood up over my head

To warm up my ears slightly turning red

I finished my walk about a mile or so

To head back toward the house, I had to go

As I climb up the steps to escape from the cold

I reflect on all the great memories I hold

My grandfather and I walked this path many of times

He is now in heaven but still by my side

No matter the conditions frigid or mug

It is the here I feel his arms giving me a hug

I will continue my walks in days of yore

Until my aging body won’t allow anymore
