Weathering the Storm

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 8 days ago 1 min read

Verse 1

I’ve always known how to stand my ground

When the sky turns black and the rain pours down.

I’ve learned to hold steady when the thunder shakes,

To breathe through the breaking, whatever it takes.

But peace is a stranger I don’t always trust,

And calm feels louder than the wind ever does.

Chorus

’Cause I’ve always been comfortable weathering the storm—

I know how to brace when the world won’t stay warm.

But I’d like to learn the language of light someday,

To get a little more comfortable

Weathering the sunny day.

Verse 2

I’m good at surviving the hardest parts,

At stitching the cracks in a trembling heart.

But joy feels fragile, like it might slip away,

Like sunshine’s a promise that won’t always stay.

So I stand in the brightness with my shoulders tight,

Not knowing how to soften in the gentle light.

Chorus

’Cause I’ve always been comfortable weathering the storm—

I know how to brace when the world won’t stay warm.

But I’d like to learn the language of light someday,

To get a little more comfortable

Weathering the sunny day.

Bridge

Maybe healing isn’t only

In the battles that we fight—

Maybe learning how to blossom

Is its own kind of brave light.

Maybe letting myself open

When the world feels safe and kind

Is the hardest, sweetest lesson

I’ve been trying to find.

Verse 3

So here’s to the mornings I don’t run from the blue,

To the warmth on my skin I let actually get through.

Here’s to trusting the quiet, the soft, and the bright—

To believing I’m worthy of the gentler light.

Final Chorus

I’ve always been comfortable weathering the storm—

I know how to brace when the world won’t stay warm.

But I’m learning to loosen, to let the sunshine stay,

To get a little more comfortable

Weathering the sunny day.

Outro

And maybe one day I’ll stand in the light

Without looking for clouds on the way—

Learning not just how to survive,

But how to stay.
