Wearing Words As A Loose Garment

Escaping our mental straightjacket with mindfulness meditation

It’s nice to be

verbally precise

but if we insist

on squeezing

our Inner Being

into a formal

suit and tie

word cage

fairies and elves

will flee in horror

our muse will

drink arsenic

and die

our heart

will suffer

frostbite

causing the

songbirds

of our soul

to fly south

leaving us

with nothing

but hard white

droppings.

But by gently

observing the flow

of our experience

we realize that words

are less real than turds

that the menu is not the food

that the map is not the territory

that we are not our thoughts

which allows us to wear

language as a loose garment

despite knowledge of good and evil

on our journey back home

to the Garden of Eden

henceforth known

as the Promised Land

since our eyes are now

wide open.
