I hope you've learnt to love your reflection

I hope you've grown closer with your family

I hope your every sunrise is beautiful

And I hope I never let someone

Disassemble me the way I did then

I hope you're listening to all your favourite songs

And I hope your bookshelf is filled with books you love

I hope living feels like flying for you

And I hope I never have to climb out

Of another grave

For awhile, we were both

Bringing guns to a knife fight

But I have laid my weapons down now

And I hope I never return

To the scene of the crime

I hope my eyes begin to sparkle again

I hope I learn to stop associating

My worth with your goodbye

And I hope I find my way back to me

I hope when you think of me

You no longer hold any of that malice

I hope the next person to bandage your wounds

Doesn't get poisoned by your proximity

I hope you find someone who fits you

Better than I did

I hope you get smiles and cures and contentment

And I hope I never ruin myself

In the face of a goodbye again

I really felt the line "I hope I find my way back to me" because it’s such a powerful reminder that healing means returning to yourself after being lost in someone else. Thank you for writing this so beautifully and honestly.❤

  • 🎉 Congrats on your Top Story! 📰✨ Super proud of you—so well deserved! 💪👏 Keep shining! 🌟😊

  • The contrast in every stanza blew me away. Kelsea would love this one. This is also perfect timing because I’m in the middle of streaming the current season of the Voice

Congrats on TS, Poppy! This one really resonates- I love the punch line at the end of each each verse, after all the "positive" affirmations.

  • Congratulations on Top Story!🤩 Beautiful poem & also accompanying song. My favourite verse is: “For awhile, we were both Bringing guns to a knife fight But I have laid my weapons down now And I hope I never return To the scene of the crime”💖

This is beautiful and heartfelt. I can totally hear and feel how a solo guitar rendition would be. Great work 🙏

What a great piece, Poppy! I love the way you painted such a great picture of the relationship these two had and the courage it takes to step away/ move on! This reminds me of that series you were working on a while ago!! So good!! Congrats on Top Story!!

I don’t know if it’s because you mentioned the inspiration, but it really feels like you could turn this into a song. You should look at submitting it to that beat challenge. Just needs a little chorus, a couple chords and you’re good to go!

This was haunting and inspirational at the same time. I could see learning and growth paired with heartache and pain. Exquisitely penned :)

“ I hope I learn to stop associating, my worth with your goodbye” GODDAMN POPPY! This is… this is one of the best pieces of verse I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading! It’s so good!!! It speaks directly to the wounded boy who shares a soul with the jaded man I grew into 😍😍😍😍 Flawless poem! You have a gift and I’m honoured you share it with us 💖💖💖🥳🥳🥳

Everything you write is a masterpiece! I love how this is soft and then just slightly bitter. Bright, but shadowed. Oddly, this feels exactly what it's like to talk down a conflict. Brilliant!
