Weak

and cruel

By William AlfredPublished 10 months ago 1 min read
Overlords of cruelty

It’s cruel to kill children half a world away

by stopping the flow of their lifesaving medication.

It’s cruel to toss workers out on the street

just because you despise government.

It’s cruel to defund doctors and hospitals

just because you don’t believe in science.

It’s cruel to hate transpeople and the differently gendered

because your idea of sex is puerile.

It’s cruel to insult and bluster and bully and rant

just because you have to get your way.

It’s cruel to take the lifelines from the poor

because you think their lives worth less than yours.

What twists your souls so much that you inflict

abject, inhuman cruelty on your neighbors?

All cruelty, Seneca said, begins in weakness.

It’s good to be nice and kind and give kids their medicine! Great work!
