we're not kids anymore

a poem by zoe frenchman

By zoe frenchmanPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

friends come and go

sometimes you're alone

but nothing you say can make

the shame go away

and one day, you'll finally feel free

and you'll see

the universe much more clearly

walking on a tightrope

is your sense of real hope

balancing and struggling

unraveling and bustling

you just wanna settle down

you just wanna let it out

tired of emotional

fed up with the cynical

we're a couple of young, broke kids

but we're not kids anymore

your youth is something you don't miss

but you don't know what you're heading for

we're a couple of dumb, weak misfits

but to find our place in the world

is something that we can't dismiss

but we must expect a few detours.
