We Are Whole

You were always there, just lost somewhere

Like sunlight touching the surface of the sea,

your presence pierced the layers of my soul.

Not too deep at first lest you see all of me;

I held you at bay in fear I’d not be whole.

There was safety in the stillness of my mind,

a quiet, dark place where I festered in denial.

But as the day and sun are inevitably aligned,

you broke the tension on my downward spiral.

There would be no hiding what lurked beneath,

for you sought to uncover the hidden piece.

I fractured and wept with sharp relief,

comforted in your embrace after your release.

The sunlight fractured through the cracks of my soul,

incinerating any lack, because you are me and we are whole.
