Waves of the Future

a poem

Molded by random words,

me and my posture undisclosed.

Moving through the streets,

waving in between.

Throwing stones off my head and chest,

abuse and neglect.

Outbursts of lava in my brain.

Drilling, spitting, sputtering.

In time, brain snapping,

switching between different memory types.

Sun dances on the buildings,

full of light.

When it all comes, it may be too late,

only shadow remains

from lost

precociously dead souls.

They could have been leaders of men,

but now they rest in a grave

made of fame, lost love, and regret.

Their poetry remains on stage,

swirling in elliptical shapes,

filled with dimmed light

that illuminates

precious heart and soul.

One of my all-time favorite bands is Joy Division. Watching Anton Corbijn's film "Control" in the cinema years ago deepened my fascination with Ian Curtis' lyrics and a new wave sound of his band. It's tragic that such a talented individual had to endure so much before his untimely death at 23. I now live near his former residence and feel compelled to visit Macclesfield, a trip I've dreamed of for over a decade. As a psychologist at heart, I wish I could have helped this man, who helped others at the Employment Exchange office where he worked, but couldn't help himself. Unfortunately, he passed away before I was born. I believe good souls like his will endure in memory. His lyrics have left a lasting impact on my soul.
