Water : The Giver Of Life

The womb of comfort

I wake with a feeling of dread —

My thoughts turn to water,

The giver of life,

Rehydrating my every cell —

Soothing my anxiety.

***

After hearing tragic news —

My feet take a wander,

A leisurely walk along the beach,

A stroll along the riverbank,

A mediative relax by the shores of a pond.

***

Hostile words spoken with those I love —

A car drive to our golden shores,

The relaxing crashing of the waves,

The pulling on my emotions by the tides —

A feeling of peace surrounds me.

***

Rejection, the powerful loss of hope —

A steaming hot bath,

Wrapping its arms of loving warmth —

Experiencing life in a womb, once more,

A deepening sense of hugging comfort.

***

The irrepressible loss of love,

Necessitating a final goodbye —

Laying on the beach in the dark of the night,

Sleeping lightly to the gentleness of the waves —

Revisiting of glorious memories.

***

Water : the giver of life —

A beach at sunrise,

A river cooled by the rainforest,

A man made pond at sunset,

A steaming bath at the end of a day,

A glass full on waking —

Like the comfort of the womb once again.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
