Water and Fire

two hands one coin

By Alexander GrutzaPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

“Burial at Sea”

Push me adrift,

stoke the roaring flames ire

So I may be indulged by charcoal lips

from the loveliest stranger,

of whom I’ve come to admire

Nock the arrow and let the volley reign

as the tides frenzy surge

and bring about the waves.

Oh what a thunderous dirge it makes!

I can hear the siren’s pain.

She weeps

for those left upon this severed shore,

her tears swell the sea

and bring about the rain

bury me at Sea,

along with these broken oars..

“Romulus”

My body is a burning temple,

during the sack of Rome

Smoldering idols pool at the axis of marble

bowed heads

crumpled in hushed effigy

Centurions fan the flames

with prehistoric fronds from conquered lands

After all,

They’re just following orders

so wantonly worded

under Saturn’s command

The Visigoths are at the gates

the temple is burning

by our best laid plans

surreal poetry
