A fragile butterfly
was trapped in a dark cocoon
it cradled her in pain
like a nightmarish tune
It sang to her a lullaby
of regrets, and misery
it clawed at her broken soul
while humming bitterly
“I will keep you close to me
and swaddle you in shame
for failing to be perfect
until nothing of you remains”
But the fragile butterfly
almost too broken to even care
saw a glimmer of sudden light
that settled in the air
The light was from her spirit
that refused to let her die
It gently whispered in her ear
“You are a warrior butterfly”
She had laid her sword down long ago
having grown weary of the fight
lulled into hopelessness
by a demon’s song at night
The cocoon fell away
and released her from its song
and watched her fly away
beautiful, and strong
