war of the world

everyday is better than before

everyday is worse than before.

both of these truths

settle in my heart.

which gets my attention today

which gets my power today.

he tells me jokes inside the house

slowly falling down the landslide.

I watch ukulele tutorials

while rain pours through the torn roof.

what's for dinner I wonder

as water pools up to my neck.

in the flood

do I continue in blissful ignorance,

or convert to harsh pessimism?

can I hope the house will stop sinking,

or do I see how things truly are?

when I look to the neighbours

they park their cars on waterfall driveways.

they paint pictures on porches

ignore the water soaking their slippers.

I wonder how long the paint will take to dry,

if I'll be around to see the finished product.

the only knowledge I have,

the water whispers while advancing down the mountain.

my head isn't soaked just yet

and I know how to swim.

all I know is what I can feel

right now.

everyday is better than before

everyday is worse than before.

both of these truths

settle in my heart.

which gets my attention today

which gets my power today.

what side do I take

in my war of the world?
