War Cry

War Cry

By Lightbringer Published 2 years ago 1 min read

I wrote this Poem as a reflection of my experience with war. I Grew up in The Northern part of Nigeria, and when i was young, a religious war broke up, it was devastating. I was only 10 when it happened, but till date i can still see and hear everything that happened that day.

I hope you like the Poem!

"Far north the coast, there was a roar

slashes of sword, piercing of bow

war-cry, our sons and daughters taken by the cold hand of war

death and perils, just as the prophesy for saw.

Fathers grieved, mothers Cry, yet we rode with them that die

muttering creeds, ancient cry.

Pain for joy, we chanted death songs

Prayers to the gods while we lay low our love ones on nature's door.

Word stopped, silence spoke

there was a sign from above

shooting star across the sky

we knew it was our love ones that rode.

Then hope sprout, we laughed in our cry

reminiscing one day how we'll meet 'em on the other side"

sad poetry
