Want no Faith
A Song of Sonnets
Sonnet the First:
Want no faith that makes me giddy.
Want no faith that lights my fire.
Want no faith that serves me only.
Want no faith that moves me higher.
Want a faith that takes the hands of
those the world has left behind.
Want a faith so full of grace it
cannot help but make me kind.
~
Light & shadow dance together,
flick’ring ‘o’er the cabin floor
of my shattered soul untethered,
wond’ring is there nothing more?
One more time, let’s lift a candle.
One more time, let's offer hope.
~
~
Sonnet the Second:
Want no faith that knows light only
without shadows, full of pride.
Want no faith so pure & holy
naught unclean can walk beside.
Want a faith that knows no stranger,
one that loves with love unbound;
faith which walks the talk unfailing,
searching out the lost ‘til found.
~
Light & shadow dance together,
flick’ring ‘o’er the cabin floor
of my shattered soul untethered,
wond’ring is there nothing more?
One more time, let’s lift a candle.
One more time, let's offer hope.
~
~
Sonnet the Third:
Want no faith that seeks pow’r over.
Want no faith that condescends.
Want no faith that claims the vict’ry,
blind to pains which never end.
Want a faith which sees the suff’ring.
Want a faith which lends a hand.
Off’ring hope where hope is fleeting.
God is love, our one command.
~
Light & shadow dance together,
flick’ring ‘o’er the cabin floor
of my shattered soul untethered,
wond’ring is there nothing more?
One more time, let’s lift a candle.
One more time, let's offer hope.
~
~
Sonnet the Fourth:
Want no faith constrained by doctrine,
love & grace withheld by laws;
casting out at our discretion
any sinner for their flaws.
Grant me faith which finds in hurting
common pain & common cause,
faith which walks the vale uncertain,
faltering, yes, yet stumbling on.
~
Light & shadow dance together,
flick’ring ‘o’er the cabin floor
of my shattered soul untethered,
wond’ring is there nothing more?
One more time, let’s lift a candle.
One more time, let's offer hope.
~
~
Sonnet the Fifth:
Light is nice & heights are thrilling,
all things neat & in their place,
Life’s not that, it’s chaos spilling,
do our best & make mistakes.
Want a faith that keeps on trying,
reaching out, though without sight,
nothing more than keep believing,
ever faithful through the night.
~
Light & shadow dance together,
flick’ring ‘o’er the cabin floor
of my shattered soul untethered,
wond’ring is there nothing more?
One more time, let’s lift a candle.
One more time, let's offer hope.
~
~
Sonnet the Sixth:
Light & shadow dance together,
flick’ring ‘o’er the cabin floor
of my shattered soul untethered,
wond’ring is there nothing more?
Nothing more but pain & sorrow,
blindly seeking, striving, lost.
Even so I, God, beseech thee…,
I will trust thee, bear my cross.
~
Light & shadow dance together,
flick’ring ‘o’er the cabin floor
of my shattered soul untethered,
wond’ring is there nothing more?
One more time, let’s lift a candle.
One more time, let's offer hope.

Wishing you strength as you navigate through this, Randy. 🙏 This is a beautiful poem
Welcome back Randy! I did wonder where you disappeared too. This is stunning work. Congrats on placing top story
Beautiful and moving poem. Christ came to seek and save the lost. I loved what you wrote here: “Want a faith that knows no stranger, one that loves with love unbound; faith which walks the talk unfailing, searching out the lost ‘til found” Amen 🙏
Beautiful sonnets. "of my shattered soul untethered, wond’ring is there nothing more?"
I admire how you maintain sonnet structure while weaving modern spiritual critique; it’s a rare blend of poetic discipline and heartfelt authenticity.
This is amazing, an exceptional piece! Its so eloquent and sophisticated, inspirational and magnificent. Excellent work!
Thank you, Randy for bringing it all to perspective. Have missed you
Wow, it seems like forever since I've read one of your, Randy! (I've been out of sync for a while.) What a great breakdown of what faith should and should not be! Well done, my friend!
Hi Randy...caught this when Mike posted on RYV. Such good points and so rhythmically put together!
I have recommended this for a Top Story in this week's Raise Your Voice https://shopping-feedback.today/resources/raise-your-voice-thread-10-09-2025%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3Cdiv class="css-w4qknv-Replies">
I agree with Rachel - Hope in the darkness. Nicely Done - Randy
You gave words to my faith, my blind wandering, my anger, my hope. I plan to share this with others who may like me find in your poetry a balm for their "shattered souls".
Shanah✡️Tovah my Pastor Randy! Let’s find ☮️ Peace…! My respect to You & Pastor Sandra Jk.in.l.a.
Provocative and yet very inspirational. Faith is very important in these days and age
This is what faith is all about, Randy. That belief that all will be right in the face of everything seeming wrong. Hope in the darkness. I found this validating.
This could have been six separate stories/sonnets, all powerful and brilliant, Randy. Excellent work
