Waiting For Godo!

A happy man reflects

The lines upon your face,

Tell me the life you have led,

Hard work and toil, all done with grace,

A life full of challenges you did embrace.

 - - ++++ - -

You always believed that the world was kind,

With those young, innocent eyes of blue,

They made everyone believe it was true,

Your eyes still reflect that positivity of mind.

 - - ++++ - -

Never did you complain, though some times were tough,

Every new day you embraced, took it in your stride,

You did your job and raised your kids, all done with pride,

But now, at 84 years old, your body is tired and screams, "Enough."

 - - ++++ - -

Hidden, secret feelings you have locked inside your heart,

Safe and secure, for only you to see,

A journey passed, you say to all, "Just let it be,"

I don't have the energy to tell my story from the start.

 - - ++++ - -

Just let me say, "My life's been good,"

"In truth, I've been blessed for sure,"

"Compared to others, not much I had to endure,"

"Sure, some things I didn't do, I wished I could."

 - - ++++ - -

So, there you sit up on your hill,

Watching the world pass you by below,

You seem content and happy there as if you already know,

You're marking time, for as you know, God will have his will.

[Authors Note: This was a rework of the very first poem I ever wrote for Vocal:

I have reframed it from a sad and somewhat desperate poem of despair to one more reflective of a life well lived and contentment. Interested in your thoughts on both and the change in sentiment. Which one do you like the best?

*** It was originally for Amanda Starks's Poetry reimagined challenge, but I missed the date.)

Till next time,

    Beautiful work! ❤

  • Thanks for sharing , though "Waiting For Godot" is a favourite of mine and has inspired a few of my pieces and my friend Paul Campbell worked it into an episode of "Doctors" for the BBC
