Voting Taboo

Normalise talking about political opinions and voting plans

There is a taboo around

Sharing your views around

Politics and whom

You plan to give your vote

And put into power and

You're all in that boat

Where the direction you're headed is

Yet to be confirmed

Yet silence is golden

Is all that you've heard

And community deafness

Is all but absurd

Because there is taboo around

Uttering

Any political word

Especially those

That sound as though

You might be suggesting

Where others should vote

Because whether you hit that iceberg

Someone else had seen

Is not to matter to you

As long as you have been

Uninfluenced, unswayed

By those said to be in your way

Even though they remain

With you in that boat

Where discussion's improper

And sharing of facts

Is a societal no

Leaving the present shrouded

In an uninformed haze

Providing the purposeful

Information delays

So all you can go off

Are previous results

And then comes the advice to

Ensure your input doesn't mean null

And null it will be

If you vote for true change

And go with your heart

And what you want

For future days

Instead of with the old

The dull and the grey

That are going to win

Because they always win

Because that's what they say

To take note of and vote with

And it would be silly

To challenge this statement

And vote 'willy-nilly' for

People who promise to

Do real good

Deserve a chance to

Prove that they could

As the evidence for the old

Is thinning perhaps

The new and improved could be winning

If we dispel the taboo

Issued by the successful

To control all of you

Into believing it's for safety

From your peers' attacks

But silence isn't safety, it

Cannot watch your back as

It lets them write the story

And tell it all their way

Until we take this social rule

And dispose of it today

And open discussion

And open debate

And listen with intent

To hear what other people say

And form new opinions

And develop the old

And vote for what's best

Not just what was told

To be the only option

By the blinded and the deaf

To the calling of progress

And reviving what's left.
