The Echo of Expectation

On vocal we comment and like to give praise

Our poems then for a few pennies we raise

It is nice to like and be liked back

Just be nice and work together that’s the knack.

Why do some follow, with praise in their wake,

A single poem cherished, for one simple sake?

Yet when their own words rise, raw and true,

They ask for the same, a reflection from you.

“Like this, like that,” they demand with their gaze,

But poetry isn’t a market for praise.

Each voice is unique, its rhythm its own,

To silence the soul would silence the tone.

Why should one echo become the guide,

When every poet’s heart beats wild, untied?

Encouragement grows when the art is free,

Not bound by the chains of “like” comment or “agree.”

So let us lift poets, not through forced praise,

through kindness and understanding, in countless ways.

For vocal art thrives not in echoing sound,

But in the silence where true voices are found.

If I like yours, please like mine back,

A gesture of kindness, a simple act.

But let us remember, as voices take flight,

True art is given without seeking the light.

I’ve leaned to lower my expectations a long time ago. After all, Vocal in a way is the echo chamber, where writers read other writers. We are all busy and get a lot of notifications. I don’t know how people can follow and reciprocate everything unless they are on here 24/7. I’m just happy with the engagement I get.

Yes, a heart doesn't mean a read, and there is a difference. But I support those who support me, and that my friends is how it works.

  • A heart doesnt mean a read, though I feel a lot don't realise it. To realise someone has read your piece you need a comment (an not some AI/Copied trash) . Your thought sin this poem ar every pertinent and I hope many people read this

  • Vacant comments are kind of irritating and smack of insincerity but we certainly appreciate a thoughtful comment whether agreeing or disagreeing. In no way expected though but very lovely when it happen 💜 C x
