Vivid I am

a poem by Ambrey Hamlin

By Ambrey HamlinPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Since the age of two I’ve been seeing rays of indigo and blue

Orchid butterflies flutter in my ribs

My finger tips drip with shades of honey and ginger

I am vivid

Amethyst gravel fill my lungs

My breath has always been clouds of slate grey

Sometimes my thoughts are lucid lilac and other times they’re charcoal shards

Mid evening sunsets are what my eyes are glazed in

My heart feels like a clean ivory except for when it is feeling heavy

Purple rain drench my toes with every step

I am awake

My skin oozes drops of mahogany

Iris petals steadily fall to my pelvic floor

Garnet grace carries my limbs when I enter a room

This vessel of mine is both light and dark

Equal exchanges of feminine and masculine hues

I am color
