Villanelle Recovery
Emotional overload

Will I recover from these villanelles?
It’s too soon to know;
Only time will tell.
It’s like being trapped in a prison cell—
Locked in with no place to go.
Will I recover from these villanelles?
I’m not buying what some of you sell
Cheap rhymes and slick alliteration, searching for room to grow:
Only time will tell
If any of this is less hollow than a shell,
wanting to know,
will I recover from these villanelles?
Into the abyss I fell,
Will the bruises show?
Only time will tell.
Trapped in this cycle like a clapper in a bell
Reading words of regret, despair, and sorrow;
will I recover from these villanelles?
Only time will tell.

My goodness, this resonates! Whenever I try to write one, it has to be completed and edited in record time, or quite often my brain goes 'splat' from counting, checking line sequences, and rhyming patterns. Feels like word problems in math before anyone explained them properly...
Looks like you’ve been fully claimed by the villanelle vortex—honestly, none of us escape once we fall in. Loved the rhythm of this!
Ha! I was going to say "none of us will recover," but it looks like Kelli covered that. Loved this!
no, you will never recover...it is a part of you now
Well, at least you can put it into a challenge, great take on the form, and there are a lot more to try as well 😁
