Life happened while we were busy living it.
But only a few months ago you said,
“You’re smart, but your heart is an idiot.”
After that, there was no forgetting it.
We tried three times to be fine, but instead
Life happened while we were busy living it.
Have I mentioned you have the prettiest
soul I’ve (ever) seen? (optional) You won’t believe what I’ve said:
“You’re smart, but your heart is an idiot.”
When I fell you were my deliverance,
pushing my wheelchair, your hair in my bed.
Life happened while we were busy living it.
The brain plays its games as the minutes tick,
but I can’t get these words out of my head:
“You’re smart, but your heart is an idiot.”
Three decades, we have paid it with interest;
some debts keep going long after we’re dead.
Life still happens. I’m glad you’re living it.
I’m not so smart. My heart is an idiot.
