VIBRATE HIGHER

A poem about why I like to wear colourful clothes.

By Thala MuhsPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

let this divine hue vibrate

resonate

reverberate and richochet

from retina to that inner place

where mountains meet gorges

where ancient stateless nations grace

the paths less traveled by my ancestors brave and quickened pace

each footstep is a beating drum

this adornment is a discourse

a petition to punctuate the monotony

this is a manifestation of my philosophy

a heady and somewhat naive attempt

to make sense of the mess (ugliness)

these decorations i wear as my smile

this is for my inner child

it started with red, gold and green

red for blood

green for nature

gold for royalty

because there is too much grey

the palette is lacking energy

this display is with a peacocks precision

a declaration that i am not dead yet

there's a little life in me still

there's a little life in me yet

this ornamentation serves as a smoke signal

i fear i have lost my tribe

children of the diaspora

the heart of the continent is beating

we are alive

this is my language when words fail me

when thoughts become overshadowed

when the flowing well recedes

and grows shallow

and i can no longer drink from it

when the soul grows tired

i put on the armour of an indigo child

and vibrate higher.
