Veil

For Mackenzie Davis's 'TAG! Photo Game'

The Spiderweb Veil - taken by Roderick Makim

Eyes unblinking.

Staring at a world filmed in gossamer.

Soundless, countless feet.

Hours and days.

Constant spinning.

Spinning tales of home.

Tales of progress.

Of beautiful impermanence.

Figures pass before my eyes.

Frozen eyes.

Constant seeing.

Tiny bodies skitter past.

Borne on their many legs.

Hate long since burned away.

Fear and phobia vanished too.

Rising sun,

Waxing moon.

Dying day,

Glittering stars.

Seen through eyes of stone,

Body lost to time,

Spiders are my only friends.

My funeral veil they lovingly craft.

Who I was - unknown to them.

Lives so short.

Young so numerous.

Phantom itching across my hand carved scalp.

Tiny legs and tickling webs I cannot feel.

Unblinking eyes watch the world pass away.

Remembering a life gone awry.

Haunted.

Hunted.

Rejected.

Abandoned.

Soundless, countless feet.

The veil creeps closed.

A common thing.

A regular loss of sight and light.

Then swept away is their home.

Yet return they must.

To the spot made theirs by my immobility.

A broken kind of immortality.

With only spiders to call my friends.

Unblinking eyes stare out,

At a world filmed in gossamer.

I cannot scream.

Have long since cease to try.

Cannot cry.

Have long since forgotten the sound.

A silent world.

Encased in stone.

With only the spiders to call my own.

Yep, still in love with the moodiness of this piece!! I'm certainly a suck for some good melancholia!! I do have a hate for spiders but somehow, this romanticizes them and they skitter way of life! 💚

Alex... you need to do more poetry!! This was hypnotic and full of such vivid imagery!! Such a great job and great entry to the TAG challenge!! Love is sooo much!! I've re-bookmarked it so I can come back again!!

I'm partial to all the repetition, especially "the soundless, countless feet" and the spiders. What beauty, Alex! The complete picture of this is soooo sad, but gorgeous in its stony glare. Ooh, I need to see if Silver has written for his tag yet! LC's was fantastic, as always. Eek, I'm excited, this is starting to take off!!

Such an impactful poem. I especially loved: "Rising sun, Waxing moon. Dying day," and "Haunted. Hunted. Rejected." So captivating.
