Us

We are electric pulses, finding each other in the dark

I felt the shift

The change in pulsing air

His eyes met mine across the room

The breath pulled from my lungs

He moved with purpose and ease towards me

Drawn in as the world faded

This was it

-

I slid a glass in front of him

It felt pedestrian

As I tried to keep cool

We took the shot of burning fuel together

And then another

And another

-

The dim lights cast long shadows across his eyes,

making them appear hollow

But he was beautiful still

We giggled and laughed until we choked on our spit

Our fingers braided themselves in clothes, wandering

Exploring

-

We danced, pressed against each other,

Sweat mixing, eyes locked

I knew it then.

But I didn’t say

-

His words turned filthy in my ear

Burning my belly with desire

My skin was hot

I brushed my arm across his chest to feel the spark

I can't remember his name

-

Let's get out of here.

Yes. Let's go

The darkness swallowed our faces

Need and want built themselves in the shadows

We let it wrap around our shoulders

We let it light

And burn

-

Damp heads

Heaved breaths

Nails dragged across electric skin

I see you

All of you

Connected in want and need

Connected in lust

Love

I know you

-

What happens next? He asked

His breathing had evened out

Maybe you

Maybe us. He whispered

Yes. I said

Us
