Uprooted

Companion poem to my painting

"Uprooted" By KAT

A seed burrows slowly into the ground

Pressed by soil all around

Her roots extend deep below

Searching for what she needs to grow

But the soil is toxic, poisoned by criticism and negativity

So she rises to the surface and breaks free

Severing the parts she must let go

That she may find healthy soil in which to grow

Once rooted in damaging soil

She has only begun to cultivate and toil

The seed seeks sunlight, love, and authenticity

Embracing the gifts of life, she nestles into positivity

Now surrounded by light and nurturing

Roots descend, stretch, and cling

This soil feels as pure as a mountain stream

The seed opens and allows herself to dream

Though leaving hurt and it took time to find a place she could survive

Uprooting was what she needed to grow, surface, and thrive
