Pink fireweed blooms

In fields where forests once stood

‘fore wildfire burned.

Kenai mountains hide

No more behind the tall spruce.

Naked to the eye.

Skilak is still blue.

Glacial silt lends its color

Unchanged by fire.

Dry air breezes down

From the stony mountain ‘bove

Disturbing ashes.
