Unspoken Promises

For My Brother

By ElliePublished 10 months ago 1 min read

No matter how hard I try,

I just want to see my parents smile.

I don't want them to work anymore,

Yet sometimes, regret knocks at my door.

Should I have endured their words, their scorn?

Was leaving that place the right move or wrong?

I don't know—but now I give my all,

Refusing to stumble, refusing to fall.

My sister keeps asking, “Why don’t you rest?

Why don’t you take care of yourself best?”

But how could she know? I can’t stop now,

I have duties to fulfill, a solemn vow.

She asked me today, "What do you seek?"

I had no answer, my voice felt weak.

All I could say was, “A new start,”

With unshaken resolve in my heart.

To my parents, I long to say:

“Don’t worry, just rest, I’ll find the way.”

When I see them troubled, my heart aches,

A silent burden my soul takes.

My sister says, "It’s okay to cry,

Even the sky must scream sometimes."

But silence has always been my shield,

Pain and hope, within me sealed.

Yet I know, their struggles won’t be in vain,

One day, I’ll erase their pain.

They deserve the world, and even more,

And I’ll be the one to open that door.

— ✨ For the ones who gave me everything.
