Making peace with the macabre

As I open the gates to the stones of the past

I witness a glimpse of a future never masked

Forward they face, and standing they lie

Backward I look, and truth do I find

Solemn they rest, from a world once their own

Keepers of old, lichen and bones

Secrets they keep, stories they whisper

Joy and grief, brother and sister

Faster it finds us, grasping of hands

Covered in dirt, pebbles, and sand

Forward I look, and truth do I find

Respect for the dead, and acceptance of time.
