Unease

Uneasily.

An air of unease

Gathers ‘round the time to meet

For the first time

Someone to like and trust

Once you find that,

You want to cling to their shirt

Like your life depends on them

Cling to that little life itself

Afraid to let go

Afraid to say goodbye

Afraid to never be able to say so

Even through two waves and a sigh

They come and go, that’s for sure

Each a wave, much different

Than the last

Sometimes small, sometimes impactful

Pushing you back towards

The shore where you started;

Here you started

Fearing something more

More than what you asked for,

More than what you could give,

Less than what you provided,

Less than what you did,

Regardless,

You are happy

To have clutched their sleeve

For fear of them falling

Or tripping yourself

You felt the whip, swish, and splash

Of each one coming forward

Each passing through

You were there,

They were too.

Yet.

And yet, don’t forget,

Do not forget.

Remember,

Remember this,

Remember that:

Some still stand and sit

Behind you, beside you

In front of you too.

Here and now

Here with and here for you.
